Web-sites explained - questions and answers at Digital Match
There are four key elements to a web site . . . for a quick and simple overview of these elements - simply expand the links below:
Remember that we'll take care of all this technical stuff for you.
We'll take care of all the following for you.
For example, "bbc.co.uk" is a domain name. The domain name is purchased (usually for one year at a time), and is normally renewed a month or so before expiry (to secure your right to that domain).
If you invite us to build your business web site, we can usually arrange the domain in just one day. If you do not own a domain name, we can suggest a web site name that is suitable for your business.
To be efficient and user friendly, the site should be built taking into account clear navigation, readability, concise and pertinent information and attractiveness.
Important:
Users do not stay on a site for long (or go back to it) if they can't quickly find what they are looking for. The informational content of your site and the way it is structured / presented is very important!
Again - we'll take care of the following for you.
A host is essentially a computer (called a web server) that "faces" the internet, and is where your web site pages are stored.
We lease our web servers from an international company that guarantees 99.9% internet uptime and 24/7 monitoring. All our web sites are backed up daily and, in the unusual event of any power failure, on-site generators immediately restore the power supply.
Your web site is therefore online 365 days a year.
Search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN etc) crawl the internet and store information about many web pages.
The content of those pages is placed in a search engine database (often called an index) for later use in search queries.
When a user enters key words into a search engine, the engine examines its database index and provides a listing of matching web pages. While there may be millions of web pages that include a particular word or phrase, some pages may be more relevant or authoritative than others.
FACT: At the beginning of the century, Google had indexed 1.3 billion pages on the web. Five years later, that figure had grown by over 600% to 8.1 billion.
In 2010 it is therefore imperative that the content of your web-site accurately depicts your business, and your target market / audience. If you don't have enough free time and would like us to write the content for your site (in an effective and web friendly manner), we can provide this service for £35 per hour. Simply call for an exploratory discussion or drop a note here, and I'll personally call you back.
Remember that our initial conversation will be free and without obligation.
We can complete the registration of domain names* as a convenience for customers. Registration of the domain will be in your name; we will be listed as the renewal contact.
